Who is Barack Hussein Obama? Obama is the junior US Senator from Illinois, and is currently in the lead for the nomination of the Democratic party for the 2008 election. His opponent is Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Obama’s mother is from America and his father is from Kenya. Barack Obama, however spent his early childhood in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents sent him to Hawaii to live with his grandparents for the educational opportunities available to him. He also lived in Jakarta, Indonesia for four years.
Barack Obama announced he would be running for president of the United States of America in February of 2007 in Springfield Illinois. Comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln, he said “That is why, in the shadow of the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln once called on a house divided to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still live, I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America.“ Obama would be the first African-American in this office, so naturally his campaign emphasizes “a change“.
From the beginning of his campaign, Barack Obama has made it a major point that one of the first things he plans to do if elected is put an end to the war in Iraq. He also has plans to boost energy independence. Another of his priorities is health care.
